  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Spread half of the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Spread the cherry pie filling over the batter.
  9. Dollop the remaining batter on top of the cherries.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sprinkle some almond extract into the batter.
  • These bars can be topped with powdered sugar for a festive touch.
